On February 2, a significant event took place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania - Groundhog Day. The famous groundhog Phil predicted the imminent onset of warm weather for Americans. Snob.ru reports this with reference to USA Today.

Traditionally, holiday participants gathered in the Gobbler's Knob forest to witness Phil's awakening. If he came out of the hole and was afraid of his shadow, it would mean six more weeks of winter. But to everyone’s joy, the groundhog did not see the shadow, which promises an early spring.

The ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere: songs were sung, people danced, and fireworks lit up the sky. The guest of honor was Pennsylvania Governor Joshua Shapiro, who named Phil the state's official meteorologist.

The Punxsutawney holiday, whose history dates back to the 19th century, has long been an international sensation. During his “prophetic” career, Phil predicted a long winter 108 times and an early thaw 20 times. It is worth noting that, according to the Associated Press, the accuracy of his forecasts is about 40%. Undoubtedly, the famous comedy “Groundhog Day,” released in 1993, also played a role in the popularization of Groundhog Day.

So, let's hope that Phil was not mistaken, and spring is already knocking on our doors!
