In Beijing, a special cultural program was prepared for the wife of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to the PRC. Ogulgerek Berdimuhamedova visited the Beijing Art Museum, where she was met by the wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping Peng Liyuan. This was reported by the Watan news program.
The collection of the Beijing Art Museum includes about 50 thousand works of ancient art. It displays objects of literature and calligraphy, as well as paintings, porcelain and antique furniture.
Ogulgerek Berdimuhamedova and Peng Liyuan listened together to a melody performed on a national musical instrument and a song performed by a Chinese children's ethnographic ensemble.
The guests also got acquainted with an exhibition of Chinese national theatrical costumes and watched a performance of the Peking Opera.
Peking Opera is a form of theatrical art and is considered the national pride of China. It includes elaborate costumes, makeup, dramatic scenes, singing, dialogue, pantomime, acrobatic acts and dancing. All this helps to clearly depict the different characters and their emotions.
This classic Chinese art form was included in UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2010 and still retains the artistic and expressive value of not only Chinese but also human culture.
