The southeastern states of the United States found themselves in the epicenter of a disaster after the passage of a powerful hurricane “Helen”, which led to tragic consequences. According to the latest data, the elements claimed the lives of at least 116 people, leaving behind destroyed homes and infrastructure, MIR 24 reports.
The hurricane affected six states, dealing the greatest blow to North Carolina, where 46 people died. South Carolina and Georgia also suffered heavy losses – 27 and 25 victims, respectively. In Florida, the elements took the lives of 13 residents, and in Tennessee and Virginia, fatalities were also recorded.
According to preliminary estimates, the economic damage could reach $ 110 billion. In addition, more than two million households in the affected regions remain without power, which aggravates an already difficult situation.
