In order to organize the digital heritage of Japanese citizens, the National Center for Consumer Rights Protection recommends indicating logins and passwords for online accounts in wills, Ferra.ru reports.

Including logins and passwords in a testament will give relatives the right to disable paid services and close irrelevant accounts after the owner's death. According to the center's experts, this approach also has an environmental aspect - deleting unused accounts reduces the load on data centers, which helps reduce the carbon footprint.

While some tech giants like Apple have already implemented posthumous account management features, most online services do not yet offer such capabilities.
