US President Joe Biden held the annual turkey pardon ceremony on the White House lawn on the eve of Thanksgiving. The main characters of the ceremony were two birds named Peach and Flower, raised in the city of Northfield (Minnesota), MIR 24 reports.

The impressive-sized turkeys weigh 18.5 and 18.1 kg, respectively. After the ceremony, the birds will return to their farm, where they will fulfill the honorable mission of “ambassadors of agriculture.”

This symbolic tradition has a long history. It dates back to 1947, when the first president pardoned a turkey. John Kennedy is considered the pioneer of this ceremony, and George Bush Sr. officially established it in 1989.

Thanksgiving Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, falls on the 28th this year.
