IA Report: Turkmenistan will become a full member of the Turkic Council

It is expected that Turkmenistan will become a full member of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) at the upcoming summit of the organization in Turkey. This was reported by the Azeri edition of IA Report with reference to the Deputy Chairman of the “Justice and Development” Party (JDP) of Turkey Binali Yildirim.

The VIII summit of the Turkish Council will take place on November 12 in Istanbul.

According to the newspaper, at the next summit the chairmanship of the organization will pass to Turkey.

It is expected that the name of the Council will also be changed. According to Binali Yildirim, the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) will be called the “Organization of Turkic Speaking States”.

Recall that at the informal summit of the heads of member states in March, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed to change the name of the council.

Earlier, at the end of June, Secretary General of the Council Bagdat Amreev visited Ashgabat and met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov.

As reported, then at a meeting with the head of the foreign ministry, the possibilities of accession of Turkmenistan to the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states in a special status were considered.

The Turkic Council was founded in 2009. At present, the full members of the organization are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey, and Hungary is an observer member. The Turkic Council coordinates a number of areas (foreign affairs, customs, culture and education, tourism, industry, etc.).
