Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its position in the global energy market. As reported by TDH, in July of this year, a contract was signed between Turkmenistan and Iran for the supply of up to 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. According to the agreement, Turkmen gas will be supplied to the Republic of Iraq in transit through Iran under the SWAP scheme.
At the recent talks in Tehran between the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, it was emphasized that in the near future, under the SWAP scheme, it is envisaged to export Turkmen natural gas to Iraq and then to Turkey.
This contract is an important step in the development of international economic cooperation of Turkmenistan in the energy sector. Based on the principles of diversification, Turkmenistan is actively developing interaction with other states and international organizations, the source notes.
