Turkmenistan, which has the fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world, is actively developing its export infrastructure thanks to the giant Galkynyş field. Ussa Ussayev, editor-in-chief of “Neft-Gaz”, told about this on the pages of “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.
As noted, the total reserves of this field together with Ýaşlar and Garaköl are estimated at almost 27 trillion cubic meters of gas, which ensures the country's energy independence and strengthens its position in the global energy market. Currently, 52 wells are in operation at the first stage of the field development, and 10 more are in the process of drilling.
The average design gas flow rate is 1,5 million cubic meters per day, but the potential of the field makes it possible to achieve rates of more than 2 million cubic meters. Three unique wells have already demonstrated a stable flow rate of about 3 million cubic meters of gas per day for a year and a half.
According to experts' forecasts, with the implementation of all seven stages of Galkynyş development, the annual production of natural gas at the field may reach about 200 billion cubic meters. The State Concern “Turkmengaz” already has the technical capabilities to supply gas to the south.
The development of Turkmenistan's gas industry opens new prospects for strengthening the region's energy security and expanding international cooperation in the energy sector.
