On July 4, in Astana, a meeting was held between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The parties had a constructive exchange of views on a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was held within the framework of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s working visit to Kazakhstan and his participation in the “SCO+” Summit as an honorary guest.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people and the President of Kazakhstan discussed strengthening the strategic nature of interstate relations, emphasizing the importance of confidential dialogue at the highest level. Particular attention was paid to the development of trade and economic cooperation, including increasing trade volumes, diversifying mutual supplies of goods and intensifying investment activity.

The prospects for expanding cooperation in the transport, communications and logistics spheres were considered. Here, one of the concrete results is the construction of the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway. Optimal implementation of the potential available in this sector will contribute to the intensification of interaction along the North-South and East-West lines, economic integration in the region and in the Eurasian space as a whole.

Issues of deepening humanitarian and cultural ties, including scientific and educational contacts and organizing joint creative events, occupied a significant place in the conversation. As noted, bright pages in the history of interstate dialogue included the installation in the center of Astana of a monument to the outstanding classic of Turkmen literature Magtymguly Fragi, and in the recently opened cultural and park complex “Magtymguly Fragi” in Ashgabat - sculptures of the famous Kazakh folk musician and composer Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly. At the same time, it is planned to erect a monument to the great Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev in the Turkmen capital. All these are visible symbols of friendship and brotherhood of our peoples.

During the meeting, issues of regional and international cooperation and interaction within international organizations were also touched upon. Turkmenistan’s proactive approach to cooperation at multilateral platforms was especially noted. The meeting ended with an expression of confidence in the continuation of the dynamic development of interstate relations for the benefit of both countries, as well as the exchange of best wishes to each other and the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Having completed the program of his working visit to Kazakhstan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proceeded to Astana International Airport, from where he departed for Ashgabat.
