On 10-11 October, Turkmenabad hosted the Japanese Culture Days held in within the framework of October events, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Japan.
Thus, a demonstration of cooking of the Japanese traditional national dish “maki-zushi” (sushi rolls) took place in the restaurant “Kämil” of the shopping center “Döwrebap”.
The official chef-cook of the residence of the Ambassador of Japan told the guests about the peculiarities of the food culture and national cuisine in Japan and also about the varieties of “maki-zushi”. Then the chef-cook demonstrated how sushi rolls are prepared and treated to the attendees.
The acquaintance with the Japanese culture continued with the screening of Japanese films “The Film of this summer” and “The Brave Father on the Net: our story of Final Fantasy XIV” in the House of Culture of Turkmenabat.
The next day, the Japanese artists visited the specialized secondary school No.35 with in-depth study of foreign languages, where they were warmly welcomed with bread and salt in their native language. The students also performed songs in Japanese. Since 2016, Japanese has been taught at this school, and high school students have a fairly good command of it.
Musician Katsumi Matsumoto presented the traditional Japanese three-stringed plucked musical instrument shamisen to the audience.
“In this musical instrument, created five hundred years ago and popular among the people today, I see a connection with Turkmenistan, - said the musician. - Because its strings are made of silk, and the Great Silk Road passed through Turkmenistan”.
Katsumi Matsumoto demonstrated his play on shamisen, also he performed famous “Katyusha”.
The performance of the Japanese folk songs by Yoshiko Matsumoto was welcomed warmly. She performed the song “Cherry Blossomed”, and Chiho Komatsu accompanied her with a graceful dance. A bit later, the dancer held a master class for the students.
In the evening, a concert was held at the State Musical and Drama Theater of the Lebap velayat. The audience greeted the Japanese performers with prolonged applause, according to the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.
