Turkmenistan and Russia discussed aspects of strengthening cooperation

The current situation and prospects for the development of partnership between the two countries on a wide range of issues were discussed today during an online meeting of the co-chairs of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on economic cooperation, the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

The Turkmen side was led by Deputy Prime Minister and foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, while the Russian side was led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk. The meeting was also attended by the heads of a number of line ministries and departments of both friendly States.

Confirming the high level of Turkmen-Russian relations, the parties discussed the development of the legal framework, building up trade and economic partnership, and cooperation in the industrial, financial and banking spheres. Joint activities in the field of Geology were also discussed.

During the talks, special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the fight against the new coronavirus infection, including the exchange of experience between relevant structures. The key aspects of interaction in the field of education and improvement of the partnership mechanism are analyzed.

The participants of the meeting expressed hope that the next meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on economic cooperation will be held in person.

Following the talks, a Memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of electric power.
