Healthy nuts or superfood for health: Top popular nuts on the shelves of Turkmenistan


A superfood term is used for designation of the products with a high concentration of useful substances for human health. As you already have guessed from the title, we will talk about nuts, super power holders. Each type of nut contains a unique quantity of vitamins, microelements, useful fats and plant protein.

But do not forget about the caloric content of the product, the frequent allergic reaction and heavy digestibility. Excessive consumption of nuts can negatively affect health.

Walnut. It is not by chance that its shell resembles the brain in shape, the nut stimulates the work of this organ. The high content of vitamin E, Omega-3 and polyphenols helps to improve memory and increase concentration. The composition of the nut includes iodine, zinc, iron, magnesium and potassium. Biotin contained in walnuts promotes the growth and strengthening of hair.

It is interesting that in Caucasus a walnut is respected as a holy tree. There tress aged more than four hundred years can be met.


Peanuts actually are a legumen crop, that is why has so much protein and so few carbohydrates. There are about 70 types of groundnut all over the world. Peanut contain B group vitamins, ascorbic acid, zinc, selenium, magnesium and some amino acids.

Interestingly, peanut butter without added sugar is healthy and nutritious. For example, vegetarians use it as a sauce for various dishes.

Hazelnut contains more ferrum that meat, also a record quantity of magnuim among nuts – 85% in 50 grams. Besides amino acids, vitamins A, C, E, PP, В Group, large äuantity of minerals, nut kernels are a concentration of useful plant substances (phytosterols, carotenoids and flavonoids). Thanks to them, hazelnuts have high biological activity.

As the historians state, hazelnut entered the human’s ration entered 10 thousand years ago. It was credited with magical properties – as if the nut could preserve life. It is more likely that suçh legend is related with the fact that in times of bad harvest some peoples survived winter thanks to hazelnuts storage.

Pistachios are low–calorie nuts containing vitamins of group B, as well as E, H, PP, dietary fiber, proteins, fats and carbohydrates. The presence of fiber in pistachios useful for the intestinal microflora makes them an excellent snack. But do not get carried away, the daily dose for an adult is 15 nuts.

Did you know that pistachios are harvested at night, because during the day essential oils and resins can cause intoxication and headache? Moreover, an interesting fact is that the Chinese gave the name of pistachio “happy nut” – a crack in the shell resembles a smile.


Almond is the source of calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamins B and E. Nut has a positive effect on heart-vascular system, helps to regulate digestive system, normalize metabolism and improve vision.

Three types of almond are used by people: sweet, fragile and bitter. The last contains hydrogen cyanide. Bitter almond is poisonous! The lethal dose for an adult is 50 nuts, and 10 is enough for a child.

Cashews contain a lot of magnesium, which strengthens bones and the nervous system, iron to saturate the body with oxygen, as well as copper, a trace element that provides antioxidant protection. Nuts do nicely in the dishes of Asian cuisine.

Why are cashews always sold cleaned and roasted? It turns out, that the nuts shell contains cardol (very caustic substance). If to try to clean the nut on your own, it is possible to get burns.


Pine nuts are characterized by a high content of magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, potassium, copper and other useful trace elements and vitamins. Nuts are caloric and fat, that’s why it is better not to overuse, but they are a great addition to salads, porridges and other dishes.

Medieval doctor and scientist Avicenna wrote about usefull features of pine nuts. And modern science proves his conclusions. For example, oline amino acid prevents the development of atherosclerosis, and tryptophan (sleep hormone) helps in the struggle with insomnia.

Nuts are good as a snack. They can provide the organism with the sufficient quantity of energy and nutritive elements until the full value eating.
