According to the scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand, 2025 has a high chance of being among the five warmest years in the history of meteorological observations, TASS reports. This trend is due to several key factors.
The main reasons for the potential temperature record are the continuing growth of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere and abnormally high temperatures of the world ocean. A particularly significant factor is the well-heated active layer of the ocean, which is in direct contact with the atmosphere and transfers thermal energy to it.
However, final conclusions about the 2025 ranking among the warmest years can only be made in the second half of this year, when enough data will be collected for a full analysis.
