Greece is preparing a legislative initiative aimed at improving the safety of motorcyclists. Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, himself a motorcyclist, has proposed banning gas stations from dispensing fuel to bikers who do not wear helmets, auto.ru writes.
A bill is being drafted in conjunction with the Ministry of Development that will not only ban the sale of fuel to motorcyclists without helmets, but also establish a system of fines for petrol stations that violate this requirement. The initiative is prompted by the serious problem of the majority of Greek motorcyclists ignoring safety rules, which, according to the authorities, leads to serious injuries and deaths in accidents.
However, the proposal met with resistance from the federation of petrol station owners. Business representatives expressed concern not only about possible fines, but also about the state's attempt to shift the functions of monitoring compliance with the road safety law to them.
