Moscow was hit by a powerful cyclone that brought extreme precipitation, the volume of which amounted to 40% of the monthly norm. This was reported by the leading meteorologist of the “Phobos” Weather Center Evgeny Tishkovets in his Telegram channel.
On Monday, the intensity of heavy rainfall reached 15 liters per square meter of Moscow territory. The cause of the abnormal weather conditions was an atmospheric vortex of western origin with a circulation center over the Smolensk region.
Heavy rainfall caused flooding of city highways. The capital's Department of Transport warned of possible local disruptions in ground public transport. Residents of the central and southern administrative districts reported flooding of highways in their areas.
According to experts, unfavorable weather conditions will persist in the Moscow region almost until the end of the work week. Improvement of the weather conditions is expected on Friday with an increase in air temperature to 26 degrees Celsius.
