Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto. During the meeting, the parties noted the positive experience of cooperation and outlined further steps to improve the connectivity between the countries through the development of multimodal transit and transport corridors and international logistics hubs, including the digitalization of the transport industry. This is stated in a statement by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The parties discussed cooperation on the UN platform and the activities of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport, established at the initiative of Turkmenistan. Umberto de Pretto emphasized Turkmenistan's commitment to improving transport infrastructure at the regional level and increasing its efficiency by joining international documents.
The issues of building up expert potential and developing the legal framework for cooperation were also discussed. The meeting included preparations for an international conference on transport, timed to coincide with the World Sustainable Transport Day in November in Ashgabat, and the implementation of Turkmenistan's initiatives in the field of sustainable transport, laid down in the country's Priority Positions at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
