Ashgabat put forward an initiative to create new trade and economic zones on the border with Iran during the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
The proposal is aimed at further developing trade relations between the countries, as noted in the publication of the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, the parties noted that mutual efforts will help give a qualitatively new content to Turkmen-Iranian trade and economic cooperation, significantly increasing mutual trade turnover, diversifying its structure and scale.
Turkmenportal previously reported that Turkmenistan intends to create new border trade zones with neighboring countries and involve specialists from the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in this matter. Iran, in turn, is an active member of the ECO and advocates promoting economic cooperation in the region.
