Representatives of Turkmenistan are taking part in the 27th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which began work in the city of Shusha, reports Trend News Agency.
The meeting is being held within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the ECO in 2023. The theme of the organization this year is “Green Transition and Mutual Connections”, the source notes.
Six ECO member countries (Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) are represented at the meeting at the level of foreign ministers.
During the meeting, a welcoming speech was made by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, as well as speeches by representatives of participating and observer states, international partners and specialized units of the ECO. In addition, other items on the agenda of the meeting will be discussed at the meeting.
The Economic Cooperation Organization is a regional interstate economic organization formed in 1985 by the countries of Central Asia and the Middle East. Its objectives include promoting economic growth, stabilization and cooperation in the region.
Currently, the ECO consists of 10 states: Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Türkiye.
