Turkmenistan and WHO discussed ways to increase the capacity of the national emergency medical system

The International Educational and Scientific Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan hosted a hybrid meeting of representatives of the WHO headquarters, WHO/Europe, the WHO mission in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan.

The meeting participants discussed issues of strengthening the national capacity of ambulance teams to respond to public health emergencies, natural disasters and other crises, newscentralasia.net reports with reference to the UN Office in Turkmenistan.

Discussions were held on such aspects as:

  • ways to increase the capacity of national emergency medical systems;
  • progress in implementing the recommendations of the WHO mission to strengthen national capacities in the field of emergency medical care;
  • appointment of national emergency medical coordinators;
  • creation of a national ambulance service classified by WHO;
  • consideration of the International Educational and Scientific Center in Ashgabat as a sub-regional training center for emergency medical care.
  • In conclusion, the participants discussed and agreed on further joint actions in the field of strengthening the response of Turkmenistan to public health emergencies and other natural disasters.
