The mission of the "Luna-25" automatic interplanetary station to the natural satellite of the Earth ended unsuccessfully: the station, which was supposed to land on the lunar surface on August 21, simply fell and ceased to exist, writes "MIR 24".
On August 19, at approximately 15:00 Moscow time, communication with the station was interrupted immediately after it received an impulse to form a pre-landing orbit. Attempts to restore communication and determine the coordinates of the location of the station had no results.
“According to the results of the preliminary analysis, due to the deviation of the actual impulse parameters from the calculated ones, the "Luna-25" spacecraft switched to an off-design orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the lunar surface", representatives of "Roscosmos" said.
The "Luna-25" spacecraft was supposed to land on August 21 in the region of the lunar South Pole on the side visible from the Earth. The purpose of the mission was to study the soil for traces of water or ice.
