A procession of the “Immortal Regiment” was held in Ashgabat. A patriotic action initiated by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan was held on the territory of the Joint Turkmen-Russian School named after A.S. Pushkin.
More than 1200 people took part in the procession of the “Immortal Regiment”. According to the established tradition, adults and children with portraits of their grandfathers, great-grandfathers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and other relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War, marched in a solemn procession around the school building.
Turkmenistan made a great contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, along with other union republics of the former USSR. In total, more than 300 thousand Turkmen soldiers took part in the battles of 1941-45. Of these, more than 70 thousand fighters were awarded orders and medals. 104 residents of Turkmenistan were awarded the high title of “Hero of the Soviet Union”, and 15 people became full holders of the Order of “Glory”.
