At the next meeting of the Turkmen-Uzbek working group on transport issues, issues on the full resumption of the process of road transport of goods between the two states, and the simplification of transportation requirements were discussed. The Uzbek delegation made a proposal to simplify the requirements and reduce the time for issuing entry visas to Turkmenistan for Uzbek drivers engaged in international freight transport by road.
An exchange of views was on expanding cooperation in the development of transport corridors. In this regard, the Uzbek side noted that the transport corridors passing through the port of Turkmenbashi are important for the entire region, and it is necessary to develop cooperation in this direction.
The parties agreed to take measures on further modernization of the railway infrastructure in order to increase freight turnover on transit routes, and to provide discounts in order to reduce transportation costs for freight traffic.
Also, the Uzbek delegation proposed to intensify work on organizing passenger transportation between the two countries. The parties agreed to intensify work within the framework of the Ashgabat Agreement with all participants in the transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman.
