President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of the country of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) called on to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan. The Turkmen leader said this at the 15th ECO Summit of Heads of State, held today in Ashgabat, reports “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
According to Berdimuhamedov, Afghanistan's participation in economic processes makes it an active actor and a valuable integral participant in the economic partnership.
Providing assistance is the most important condition for achieving peace, harmony and development on Afghan territory, the head of Turkmenistan said. In this, he said, Turkmenistan sees a strategic perspective for Afghanistan, its role in regional and global processes.
“I am convinced that in this difficult period we must provide urgent and effective humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people,” President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
The ECO Summit was also attended by the presidents of Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
Note that Turkmenistan was one of the first to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after the change of power in this country. In addition, Ashgabat did not stop supplying electricity to Herat and the northern provinces of Afghanistan at preferential prices.
