Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Ashgabat today to participate in the 15th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, IRNA reports.
This is his first trip to a neighboring country. During his stay in Ashgabat, Raisi plans to hold meetings with his colleagues from the ECO member countries to discuss issues of mutual interest and further expand cooperation. It is also planned that the head of Iran will deliver a speech at the ECO Summit.
It is reported that the Iranian president will elaborate on Iran's position on various regional and global issues, present proposals from the Islamic Republic to strengthen regional and international relations of the ECO and further expand economic cooperation between the member countries.
Ibrahim Raisi has already met with Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
As reported by the “Vatan” news program of the Turkmen television, during the meeting, the interlocutors discussed interstate political-diplomatic, economic and cultural relations.
Special attention was paid to the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in the trade and economic field.
Also, during the visit, the Iranian President plans to meet with Iranians living in Turkmenistan and Iranian traders.
ECO members are Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.
The 15th ECO Summit, chaired by Turkmenistan, will start tomorrow, 28 November.
