Today, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a memorandum of understanding on the “Dostluk” field between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The document was published on the official website of the head of Azerbaijan.

The “Dostluk” field in the Caspian Sea, which, according to experts, is estimated at 50 million tons of oil, has been considered controversial for many years. On January 21 this year, the heads of the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan signed an intergovernmental memorandum in Ashgabat on mutual understanding on joint exploration, development and development of this hydrocarbon field. The memorandum was ratified by the Azerbaijani Parliament on February 22.

According to Azerbaijani media, an intergovernmental agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan is currently being prepared, according to which the hydrocarbon resources of the “Dostluk” field will be distributed between the parties in the ratio of 30% (Azerbaijan) and 70% (Turkmenistan).

Russian oil company PJSC “Lukoil” will also take part in the development of the field.
