Women's rights in Turkmenistan were discussed at a round table in Ashgabat

Cooperation issues between states of Central Asia in modern conditions, also extension of economic, social, cultural rights of the women in consolidation of democracy basis were discussed today on the meeting with the participation of Natalya German, special representative of UN General Assembly, chief of Regional center on preventive diplomacy for Central Asia. 

The speaker of the Mejlis, the chairman of the National Center of Trade Unions and the Central Council of the Women's Union of Turkmenistan also took part in the roundtable meeting held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As it sounded in the speeches, the election of Turkmenistan to the Executive Council of the structure for gender equality and the empowerment of women is further evidence of our country's commitment to gender equality and cooperation with the UN on this aspect.

In this context, they noted the need to further strengthen fruitful contacts with international organizations.

The participants of the “round table” informed about the regularly held seminars, meetings and consultations on the preparation, in accordance with the UN documents, of national reports and reviews, the study of best practices in this area.

Highly assessing the prospects for further cooperation, the meeting participants emphasized that the UN General Assembly, co-sponsored by 73 states, unanimously adopted the Resolution initiated by the head of the Turkmen state to proclaim 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.

Current meeting become one more practical step in the way of strengthening of the dialog with international organizations and, in first turn, with UNO, informs State information agency of Turkmenistan.
