Turkmenistan and the European Union discussed issues of cooperation in the field of human rights

Issues of expanding cooperation in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law were discussed today in the framework of the Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

The talks were held in a video conference format. The Turkmen delegation was represented by the Ombudsman, the heads and representatives of the Mejlis, the Ministry of foreign Affairs and other agencies, and the European – the European external action service and the office of the European Union in Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on such priority areas of state policy as the development of civil society, the rule of law and judicial reform, and the interaction of the parties to reduce the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They also discussed issues of comprehensive assistance in ensuring economic, social and cultural rights of people within the framework of international and local documents. Among them are the national action plan for gender equality for 2015-2020, the national action plan for human rights for 2016-2020, the national action plan for combating human trafficking for 2020-2022, the national action plan for the implementation of children's rights for 2018-2022, the National strategy for early child development for 2020-2025, and others.
