UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay sent an official letter to the leadership of Turkmenistan with the original certificate of inclusion of the Turkmen national carpet art in the Representative list of the intangible heritage of humanity, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

Recall that the decision was made at the meeting of the 14th session of the intergovernmental Committee for the protection of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO, which was held from 9 to 14 December 2019 in the capital of Colombia – Bogota. Then this event became a kind of gift for the day of neutrality of Turkmenistan.

And now, on the eve of the International day of Novruz, the certificate confirming the historical significance and value of the traditions of Turkmen carpet weaving as part of the universal cultural heritage, was delivered to Ashgabat.

"The inclusion of the Turkmen national art of carpet-making in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity is a clear evidence of the recognition by the world community as a beautiful monument of art of our amazing carpets woven by our miracle masters," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasizes.

Turkmenistan and the UN, in particular UNESCO, have a long-term and fruitful partnership. Among its results-the inclusion of the historical and cultural reserves of Ancient Merv, Kunyaurgench and Ancient Nisa in the world heritage List, the destan "Gorogly" and the ritual dance "Kushtdepdi" - in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO.

The head of state declared one of the priorities of the state policy to be a deep study of the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, careful preservation and enrichment of their ancient traditions.

A great contribution to the study and popularization of the national art of manual carpet-making was made by the books of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "Janly rowaýat" and "Arşyň nepisligi", which were widely distributed in the world due to translations into foreign languages, praising the beauty of Turkmen carpets.

The Treasury of priceless rarities is the national Museum of Turkmen carpet in Ashgabat, where a unique collection of the rarest in terms of artistic merit and technique of manufacturing products from different parts of the country is collected. Over the years of searching and painstaking work of scientists, specialists and carpet makers, hundreds of ancient ornaments have been restored, and the oldest examples of unique art have been restored.

Active international cultural, trade and economic contacts play an important role in the development of national carpet weaving and its promotion on world markets.
