A recent study conducted by US researchers found a link between excessive video viewing and delayed vocabulary development in children under 3 years of age.
The study involved 302 parents whose children were aged between 1,5 and 2,5 years. The analysis showed that children who watched about 2 hours of video per day showed poorer vocabulary and produced shorter sentences compared to those who watched less video.
However, if parents were involved in the viewing process, commented on what was happening on the screen and interacted with the child, the negative effect on vocabulary was reduced. Mail.ru reports this with reference to Acta Paediatrica.
Researchers recommend limiting video viewing time for children under 3 years of age and, if possible, postponing introduction to gadgets until an older age.
In addition, excessive use of gadgets in early childhood can cause atypical sensory behaviors similar to symptoms of autism and ADHD.
