More than a hundred medalists at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics have had their medals returned due to serious quality issues. According to the French publication La Lettre, the situation led to serious personnel changes at the Paris Mint, where three leading specialists were fired, writes daily.afisha.ru.
French swimmer Maxime Grousset and American skateboarder Nija Huston were the first to report the problem. Their awards became unusable just two weeks after the award ceremonies: cracks and signs of delamination appeared on the surface of the medals. Houston reacted especially emotionally, comparing the condition of his medal to that of having “got through the war.”
