The relatives of Shahzada Dawood, who tragically died while diving to the Titanic, inherited only a small part of his multi-million dollar fortune. His wife Christine received only 76,958 pounds sterling due to the lack of a will, snob.ru reports with reference to the Daily Mail.
At the same time, the total fortune of the Pakistani businessman was estimated at 285 million pounds sterling, and the annual turnover of the family business in Karachi reached 1.3 billion pounds. However, the legislation of the English county of Surrey, where the family lived, allowed the widow and 17-year-old daughter Alina to claim only assets located in the UK.
The bulk of Dawood's capital presumably remained in Pakistan, where British law does not apply.
The tragedy occurred in June 2023, when the bathyscaphe Titan crashed during an expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic. On board were Shahzada himself and his 19-year-old son Suleiman, who took his mother's place at the last minute, intending to set a record for solving a Rubik's cube at depth. Three other participants in the dive died along with them: OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British entrepreneur Hamish Harding and French Titanic explorer Paul-Henri Narjolet.
