Director General of the Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammethan Chakyev and Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev discussed the possibilities of exporting Kyrgyz products through Turkmen ports on the Caspian Sea, the press service of the Kyrgyz government reports.
According to the press service, officials held negotiations via video link on Wednesday, during which they discussed issues of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan in the fields of energy, transport, infrastructure, agriculture and trade.
“The parties noted the need for further development of trade relations, emphasizing the importance of increasing cargo flow through the Caspian Sea, which has great potential for creating effective logistics both at the regional and international levels,” the statement said.
It is noted that in this regard, the organization of multimodal cargo transportation along the route Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Russia or through the Azerbaijani port of Alyat in the direction of European countries is being considered. As the leaders noted, the implementation of this route will help strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, expanding opportunities for transporting goods both within the region and for their export to Europe.
“Also, in order to enhance the use of the capabilities of the Turkmenbashy international seaport by Kyrgyz carriers in transportation across the Caspian Sea, options for lighter tariffs for all types of transport and port services were considered,” the Cabinet emphasized.
