Pedro Almodovar's “The Room Next Door” received the main award at the Venice Film Festival

The winners of the 81st Venice Film Festival have been announced. The main award, the “Golden Lion”, was given to the film “The Room Next Door” by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. This is the master's first English-language work, in which Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore star, pravilamag.ru reports with reference to Variety.

The film tells the story of writer Ingrid, who learns of her longtime friend Martha's terminal illness. Their meeting after a long separation revives their former friendship. The film's premiere at the festival was accompanied by an unprecedented standing ovation that lasted more than 18 minutes.

Other winners included Brady Corbet, who won the “Silver Lion” for directing “The Brutalist”, and Nicole Kidman and Vincent Lindon, who won acting awards. The jury, chaired by Isabelle Huppert, included renowned filmmakers from around the world.
