President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took the initiative to develop the transport and communications sector in Central Asia at the Sixth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the region in Astana. He emphasized the need to create new transport and transit corridors connecting Asia and Europe, and called on the countries of the region to actively participate in these processes, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that successful economic development of the region is possible through close and mutually beneficial partnership. He invited the countries of Central Asia to begin the practical implementation of tasks to create modern logistics, harmonize legislation and mutually provide customs and tariff preferences.

The President of Turkmenistan also highlighted energy as one of the priority areas of cooperation. He emphasized the importance of meeting the growing energy needs of the region's states, taking into account the development of industry and agriculture. Serdar Berdimuhamedov called for the creation of a system that would guarantee the energy security of Central Asian countries in the face of instability in the global energy market.

“Last but not least, such a system should guarantee our countries from possible negative scenarios on the global energy market, minimize their consequences, and create the necessary safety margin for national energy systems in case of unforeseen circumstances of a man-made and natural nature,” said the head of state.

Other promising areas of cooperation included the expansion of trade, industrial cooperation and the development of partnerships in the field of small and medium-sized businesses.
