A unique case occurred at the Moscow Regional Center for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood: doctors removed a bullet from the body of a newborn girl. Information about this was distributed by the press service of the medical institution, pravilamag.ru reports.
According to the parents, the incident occurred due to careless handling of an air gun. The father, practicing shooting in the garden, accidentally hit his pregnant wife in the stomach with a ricochet. At the time of the incident, the pregnancy was 30 weeks.
Having immediately contacted specialists, the couple learned that the life of the mother and the fetus was not in danger. It was decided not to terminate the pregnancy and wait for natural childbirth.
After the baby was born, neonatologists conducted a thorough diagnosis, including ultrasound and X-ray. It turned out that the bullet was lodged in the subcutaneous tissue of the anterior abdominal wall, without hitting the internal organs.
Head of the neonatal surgery department Mikhail Rekhviashvili confirmed that the bullet's location did not pose a danger to the baby's life.
Immediately after the birth, the girl underwent surgery, successfully removing the foreign body. The postoperative period passed without complications, and soon the mother and child were discharged home in good health.
