Turkmen boxers won the first victory at the 2nd World Olympic Qualification Competitions that started in Bangkok. Shukur Ovezov achieved this success.

In the opening fight against the 22-year-old participant of the 19th Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou (China) Ziyad Ali Majrashi from Saudi Arabia in the weight category up to 57 kg, in which 63 boxers are fighting for medals, Sh. Ovezov did not experience any problems. All five judges were unanimous, giving the victory to the Turkmen boxer, writes the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

As a result, Shukur Ovezov won with a score of 5:0 and reached the 1/16 finals, where he will meet with the 25-year-old silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo and bronze medalist of the XVIII Summer Asian Games 2018 in the weight category up to 52 kg, champion of Asia 2022 in the weight category up to 54 kg, Carlo Paalam (Philippines), who prevailed over Alexei Lagkazashvili (Greece) in his debut match – 5:0.

The second World Olympic Qualifying Competition in Bangkok is the last opportunity for boxers to earn spots for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Turkmenistan national team is represented by three athletes at this qualifying tournament. In addition to Shukur Ovezov, Saparmyrat Odaev (up to 63.5 kg) and Bayramdurdy Nurmukhammedov (up to 71 kg) are fighting for tickets to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

According to the draw, Saparmyrat Odaev will fight Kon Chin Lee (Hong Kong) in the first fight. In case of victory in this fight, our compatriot will meet in the next round with the winner of the pair Vu Tan Dat (Vietnam) – Tsendbaatar Erdenebat (Mongolia).

And the bronze medalist of the 19th Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou (China), Bayramdurdy Nurmukhammedov, will have his starting fight against the 27-year-old bronze medalist of the 2022 Asian Championship Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar (Mongolia). The winner of this pair will meet in the second round of the competition with the winner of the battle Nishant Dev (India) – Armando Bigafa Bigate Naae (Guinea-Bissau).
