The Amudarya State Nature Reserve, located in the Lebap velayat of Turkmenistan, is famous for its unique landscapes and richness of flora and fauna, writes the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

It was created in 1982 to study and protect natural complexes in the middle reaches of the Amu Darya. The reserve includes the Goreldinsky, Gabaklynsky and Nargizsky departments, as well as the Kelif nature reserve.

Kelif is located in the southeast of the Karakum Desert and covers an area of more than 100 thousand hectares. Both coastal forests and areas of the Karakum and Kyzylkum deserts are represented here. The reserve's workers are engaged in the preservation and enhancement of desert vegetation.

On the territory of the Amu Darya there are over 225 species of highly structural plants, and in the desert zone - about 125, including 15 medicinal ones. The forests are dominated by cypress, pistation, willow, and elm. The dense jungle is home to numerous animals.

The reserve's employees are doing a lot of work to implement environmental policy and preserve the unique nature of the Amu Darya.
