A football tournament was held in the capital of Turkey among embassies of different countries, dedicated to the International Day of Neutrality, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Teams from the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Turkmen and foreign students studying at higher educational institutions in Turkey, took part in the football competition organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Turkey.

“The friendly mini-football tournament has become not only a real sports festival, but also a symbol of interstate friendship and good neighborliness. The winning team of the tournament and the prize-winners were awarded medals, certificates and memorable gifts on behalf of the Embassy of Turkmenistan,” the statement says.

Let us remind that the initiative to proclaim the International Day of Neutrality in December 2015 was made by the participants of the international conference in Ashgabat, which was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the neutrality of Turkmenistan.

It adopted the Ashgabat final document, which stated that “the policy of neutrality proclaimed and pursued by UN member states contributes to the strengthening of international peace and security in the relevant regions and at the global level and plays an important role in the development of peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the countries of the world."

Taking into account the Ashgabat Final Document, on February 2, 2017, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution declaring December 12 as International Day of Neutrality. It was on this day in 1995 that the UN General Assembly, at the proposal of Turkmenistan, adopted a resolution on the permanent neutrality of this country.
