To increase the number of passengers transported, cars without seats will begin running in the Seoul metro from January 2024, reports RG.ru with reference to the Seoul Metro company.
New cars will be added to the train on the two busiest metro lines – the fourth and seventh. They will run only in the morning and evening hours, when passenger traffic reaches its peak.
It is expected that the introduction of cars without seats will increase the metro's capacity by 30-40%. This will permit more passengers to be carried and reduce the load on the system.
If the project is successful, the seatless cars could be introduced on other Seoul subway lines.
