President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during today's telephone conversation with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev, congratulated the current head of the neighboring state on his confident victory in the early presidential elections held on July 9 in Uzbekistan, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
In continuation of the telephone conversation, the heads of the two states discussed issues of further deepening the Uzbek-Turkmen relations of strategic partnership and expanding multifaceted cooperation.
The continued active contacts at all levels were noted with satisfaction. In particular, meetings of intergovernmental commissions, political consultations, meetings of the ministers of transport, energy and culture have been successfully held since the beginning of the year.
It was stated that the trade turnover is growing at a steady pace, as well as the implementation of important humanitarian programs aimed at bringing the two fraternal peoples closer together.
We remind that four contenders ran for the post of President of Uzbekistan. According to the Central Election Commission, the candidate from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - the Liberal Democratic Party Shavkat Mirziyoyev won 87,05 percent of the vote.
Three other candidates did not even get 5 percent of the vote. First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan Robahon Mahmudova, nominated by the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" ("Justice"), scored 4,43 percent, the leader of the People's Democratic Party Ulugbek Inoyatov – 4,02 percent, the head of the Ecological Party Abdushukur Khamzaev - 3, 74 percent.
The turnout in the early presidential elections in Uzbekistan was about 80 percent.
According to the amendments made this year to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev will lead the country until 2030.
