The capital of Turkmenistan celebrated World Table Tennis Day. The main arena of the celebration was the children's school at the stadium "Kopetdag" (Sector 12), where the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan held a tournament among young masters of a small racket.
It is worth noting that since this year World Table Tennis Day is celebrated on April 23 (previously this day was celebrated on April 6 annually).
The new date highlights the long history of the International Table Tennis Federation. On this day, April 23, the famous Ivor Montagu was born, the strongest British tennis player of his time, the organizer of the first ever World Table Tennis Championship in 1926 and the founder and first president of the International Federation.
The main goal of World Table Tennis Day is to invite all people, regardless of country, gender, age and ability level, to unite for the game of table tennis. On this day, various tournaments, master classes, demonstration performances and other events were held all over the world.
Opening the tournament in Ashgabat, Chairman of the Table Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan Agamurad Allanazarov congratulated all those present on the holiday, and then gave an interesting lecture on the development of table tennis in the world.
Further, master classes were held by eminent tennis players from among the current members of the national team of Turkmenistan.
As a result of sports competitions, all winners and prize-winners received diplomas of participation in the tournament and valuable prizes.
