The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres, proposed creating two peacekeeping centers in the country, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Chairman Halk Maslahaty emphasized that Turkmenistan, as a Caspian state, pays special attention to regional security issues.

“As for regional security, we must take into account that Turkmenistan is also a Caspian state. For this reason, we are concerned about the security situation in the Caspian region,” noted the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also recalls that last year Turkmenistan took the initiative to host the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Caspian States. In this regard, based on the proposals of the Turkmen side to provide neutral states with the status of priority partners in the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations, it declared its readiness for active interaction with the relevant UN structures.

“To achieve this, we can consider the possibility of creating two peacekeeping centers on the territory of Turkmenistan. Of course, targeted measures will be implemented taking into account the neutral status of Turkmenistan, which directly involves the practical application of neutrality norms to maintain international peace and security, including to prevent conflicts,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty also stated that the level of security and the situation with it in Central Asia are largely determined by the constructive solution to a wide range of issues on the modern regional agenda, one of which is water issues.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov voiced the position of Turkmenistan, according to which consideration of a whole range of issues related to water should be based on compliance with international law, taking into account the interests of the states of the region and the involvement of international structures, primarily the UN. Their violation creates a threat and a colossal environmental, socio-economic and humanitarian risk for the countries of the region, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized.
