As part of preparations for the Asian Cup 2023, the Malaysian national football team will hold friendly matches with the national teams of Turkmenistan and Hong Kong at the end of March. This was announced in an interview with Vocket by the head coach of the Malaysian national team Kim Pan Gon.

“In March, we invited the national teams of Turkmenistan and Hong Kong to friendly matches. Turkmenistan is higher than us in the FIFA rankings, and this is a good team. I heard that they want to take revenge on the Malaysian national team for losing at the Bukit Jalil Stadium last year. Therefore, we will accept the challenge of the Turkmen team,” said the head coach of the Malaysian national team.

Both friendly matches are scheduled to take place at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) in Johor, Malaysia.

Now in the FIFA rankings, Malaysia is in 145th position, Turkmenistan is in 135th, Hong Kong is in 146th.

The national teams of Turkmenistan and Malaysia met on the field only once. On June 8, 2022, the national football team of Turkmenistan lost to the Malaysian national football team at the Bukit Jalil stadium in Kuala Lumpur with a score of 1:3.
