Turkmenistan will increase electricity delivery to Uzbekistan. The corresponding resolution was signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the conducted meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on Friday, reports the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper today.

The document prescribes “Türkmenenergo” State Electric Energy Corporation of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan conclude an Additional Agreement to the Agreement concluded with “Uzbekistan National Power Networks” Joint Stock Company.

Commenting on the signed document, the President of Turkmenistan stressed the importance of consistent work to steadily increase the capacity of the domestic energy system, designed not only to ensure reliable and stable electricity supplies within the country, but also to increase the volume of its exports, primarily to neighboring countries.

Earlier it became known that following the recent official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Ashgabat, an agreement was reached on the purchase of 4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by Uzbekistan in Turkmenistan.

At present time, Turkmen electric energy, besides Uzbekistan, is exported to Afghanistan, Iran and Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, there is a great possibility to deliver it to the third countries via Uzbekistan and Iran. This year it is planned to bring the delivery volume to 9 billion kilowatt hours. This figure is 3.3 times higher than in 2013.

12 electric stations with a capacity of 6943.2 megawatt work in Turkmenistan, where 51 turbine units have been installed, of which 39 gas turbines and 12 steam turbines.
