Let’s remind that Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected to the post of the head of state during the parliamentary elections. 134 parliamentarians voted for him. In total 223 deputies out of 225 took part in the elections.

President of Sri-Lanka is elected during a direct overall election for the period of 5 years. However, because of the previous head of state Gotabaya Rajapaksa voluntarily and prematurely resigned, the new president was elected by the legislature before the end of the current term.
