In AFC club competitions from the 2023/24 season, the limit for foreign players will change

The limit for foreign players in the 2023/2024 season in the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup will be increased to 6 people. This decision was made by the Executive Committee of the AFC, reports the official website of the organization.

Clubs will be able to apply for the match 5 foreign players + 1 footballer had to be a citizen of a country that is part of the AFC.

Let us remind you, that in the AFC club tournaments there is a “3+1” limit, according to which each team can have a maximum of 4 foreign players in the application.

Already from this season, 35 players can be added to the application of football clubs instead of the usual 30.

It should be noted, that the football clubs of Turkmenistan play without legionnaires. As for the potential of Turkmen football players, it has grown over the last few years. In addition to the participation of the national team of Turkmenistan in the Asian Cup in 2019, the Turkmen football club "Altyn Asyr" in the 2018 season for the first time reached the final of the AFC Cup, and the players of the youth team of Turkmenistan (under 23) made it to the final stage of the Asian Cup-2022 for the first time.
