Serdar Berdimuhamedov nominated as a candidate for the post of President of Turkmenistan

Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov was nominated as a candidate for the post of President of Turkmenistan. His nomination took place at the Extraordinary Congress of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, at the Center of Public Organizations, the Information Program "Watan" of the Turkmen Television reported.

Members of the Democratic Party stressed that the Presidential elections scheduled for March 12 will be held in new historical conditions, as the country enters a new period of its progressive development.

The speakers noted the outstanding leadership and organizational qualities of the contender, great merits and achievements in the implementation of national development programs, organizational skills and experience gained in recent years in various areas of state activity as well as strategic style of thinking.

As it is known, Serdar Berdimuhamedov's political career began in the fall of 2016. Then he was elected a Deputy of the Mejlis (Parliament). Then he was appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. In June 2019, Serdar Berdimuhamedov headed the Administration of the Akhal Region. Since February 7, 2020, he held the position of Minister of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan. Exactly a year ago, Serdar Berdimuhamedov joined the Government and the State Security Council, and, at the same time, he was appointed Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber of Turkmenistan. After 5 months, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the financial and economic complex.

Also noting Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s high moral qualities, the delegates of the Congress unanimously took a decision to nominate him as a candidate for the post of the President of Turkmenistan.

In his turn, thanking all those present for their trust, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that he is aware of his responsibility and would do everything in his power to justify it.

Speaking to the audience, the Deputy Head of the Government assured that, if he is elected President of the country, he will continue following the spiritual principles and heritage of his ancestors, doing his best in the name of the Motherland and the people’s prosperity, diligently and creatively approach the implementation of the historical undertakings of the nation’s leader.

"The main goal of all my concerns will always be happy life of our people, transformation of our state into a progressive country of a new era," Serdar Berdimuhamedov said, expressing confidence that 2022– the year of the Presidential elections of Turkmenistan, will be the year of rapid social and economic progress of the Motherland, the triumph of the development of the higher school of national democracy, which traditions go back centuries.

– I firmly believe in our people, in their high and unshakable spirit, that by joining efforts we will work for the further transformation of our Motherland, strengthening the faith of the Arkadag President in a bright and happy future, - said the candidate for the post of the Head of State.

The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed confidence that the members of the Democratic Party will support the implementation of grandiose undertakings and works based on the principle "The state is for man!".

In conclusion, Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for great confidence in his nomination as a candidate for the Presidential elections of Turkmenistan, and assured that he would work with all his abilities and knowledge.

Following the results of the debate, the Council of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan adopted a corresponding Resolution that was sent to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan for registration as candidates for the Presidential elections-2022 in accordance with the established procedure.

Let us remind that today the Presidential Election Campaign started in Turkmenistan and its first stage is nomination of candidates.

In accordance with the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, the right to nominate candidates belongs to political parties registered before the election date, as well as groups of citizens.

Political parties nominate Presidential candidates at their Congresses. There are three political parties in Turkmenistan – the Democratic Party, the Agrarian Party and the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The nomination campaign continues. Upon its completion, speeches in the media and meetings with voters will begin.
