Many farms in Mary velayat have decided on the land that will be allotted for growing potatoes. In general, in 2022 in the velayat, it will be planted on almost 13 thousand hectares, reported the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

This is much more than the areas that were allocated here earlier.

In the Turkmen-Kala etrap this year, potatoes will be grown on 2 300 hectares – the area will almost double. This should allow the Turkmen residents to hand over at least 32 200 tons of potatoes to the state in two harvesting seasons.

The cultivation of vegetable and melon crops will be carried out by workers of 3 farmers’ associations: “Turkmenistan”, “Taze yol” and “Kemine”.

As we know, the country plans to reduce the sown area for cotton by 40 thousand hectares in order to increase the land area for sowing potatoes and vegetables and melons. Many people wonder whether this will affect the volume of cotton harvested in the country.

But there are answers to this question from experts – agrarians, the essence of which boils down to the need to increase the yield of land due to the strict implementation of agrotechnical rules for the cultivation of cotton.

Dovlet Kunkarov, the leading specialist of the department of the reforms and the introduction of modern methods in agriculture of the hyakimlik of the Turkmen-Kala etrap, also speaks about this.

- While looking at the results of the cotton campaign, everyone sees that one of the tenants has harvested more cotton that the task stipulates. Among them there are those who overlap their obligations by 50 percent, and some even twice. And this is despite the fact that everyone worked on the same lands, in the same weather conditions, used the same fertilizer. But the results are different for everyone. And here it is important to talk not so much about the attitude of people to their work, to which most of the villagers give themselves without reserve but also about the experience of land use, the level of agrotechnical knowledge, how carefully and skillfully they apply scientifically grounded methods of work when growing a particular crop. Now, if in this direction, exactly in raising the culture of agriculture, we can achieve the necessary results, then large yields can be obtained on small areas. In this sense, we, agricultural specialists, to intensify the work on the introduction of modern methods in agricultural production, have something to think about. I believe that it is necessary to meet more with the villagers, to be interested in their affairs in the fields, to help them with advice. However, this is how we organize our work today. This is how we intend to continue to act. And we are confident that we will achieve a successful solution to the challenges we face.
