One of the activities of the laboratory of geoinformation systems of the Center of Technologies of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan is associated with the development of a methodology for multilevel monitoring of vegetation and soil using methods and technologies for decoding aerial and satellite images, according to the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan”.

According to the head of the laboratory, Serdar Rozyev, based on measurements of the spectral characteristics of vegetation and soils in the area of the Turkmen lake “Altyn Asyr” and the Caspian lowland, a hyperspectral library of the main representatives of the pasture vegetation of Turkmenistan has been developed, which will allow using satellite images to quickly obtain the necessary information about the state of pastures.

The obtained results of these studies in the future will make it possible to monitor pasture vegetation for the country's livestock breeders, to develop scientifically grounded recommendations on the organization of pasture areas, on their watering, surface and radical improvement.

Based on the results of these works, it may be possible to develop a long-term plan for the long-term use of pastures with the conduct of scientifically grounded pasture rotation for distant pasture breeding.

Another direction of research is associated with the development of a methodology for monitoring irrigated lands, taking into account the main types of soils in Turkmenistan (irrigated gray soils, meadow and takyr soils) and the degree of their salinity. In connection with global climate change and anthropogenic impact on irrigated lands, the use of high-tech methods will allow obtaining operational data on the state of soils and timely carrying out the necessary agromeliorative measures.

In the context of the transition to self-financing, scientific laboratories, based on the use of remote sensing data of the earth and geographic systems, will be able to provide services to farmers and other agricultural enterprises for monitoring the state of soils and vegetation, which will have a fruitful effect on the final results of their agricultural activities.
