The Central election Commission of Turkmenistan discussed preparations for the first elections to the upper house of Parliament

Preparations for the first elections to the upper house – Halk Maslahaty – of the National Parliament (Milli gengesh) discussed on Saturday at a meeting of the Central Commission for elections and referendums in Turkmenistan.

Members of the Central election Commission, representatives of working groups formed under the Central election Commission, responsible employees of political parties and public organizations of the country, and the media attended the meeting.

As you know, in connection with the adoption of the constitutional Law "on amendments and additions to the Constitution of Turkmenistan", in 2021 our country will switch to a bicameral structure of the legislative body – the Halk Maslahaty and the Mejlis, which corresponds to the generally recognized principles and norms of international law. In this regard, the agenda of the current meeting includes a number of issues related to the upcoming elections. In accordance with the Resolution of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, this important socio-political action is schedule for the last Sunday of March 2021.

The Central election Commission approved a calendar of events for the preparation and conduct of the elections. According to the resolution Of the Central Commission for elections and referendums in Turkmenistan, the election campaign will start on January 2, 2021.

During the meeting, participants discussed organizational issues of the upcoming campaign, which will monitored by national observers from political parties, public organizations, citizen groups and representatives of candidates.

In particular, the necessary documents approved, including manuals and memos.

Among the primary tasks, the participants of the meeting identified ensuring the openness and broad alternative of the elections.

The heads of the velayat and Ashgabat city election commissions informed about the preparations for the upcoming elections, as well as the organization of events at various levels, where the main role is also give to explanatory work among the population. As noted, special responsibility falls on the election commissions, whose clear and well-coordinated activities largely determine the success of this important socio-political action.

The participants of the meeting expressed confidence that the formation of a qualitatively new bicameral structure of the National Parliament will create favorable conditions for strengthening the legal basis for the political development of independent Turkmenistan and increasing the efficiency of state authorities.
